Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture is the most widely used practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  It involves stimulating certain points on the body with a sterile thin needle to relieve pain and treat various health conditions.

Acupuncture is generally not painful. Most people feel very little when the needles are inserted—sometimes just a tiny pinch or a mild tingling sensation. Once the needles are in, you may feel a dull ache, warmth, heaviness, or a gentle pressure around the area. Some people describe it as a very relaxing, almost “tingly” sensation rather than pain.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Needle size: Acupuncturists use very thin needles, much thinner than typical medical needles.

  • Sensitivity: Certain points or areas may be more sensitive, so discomfort can vary.

  • Technique: A skilled practitioner will adjust insertion and stimulation to minimize discomfort.

  • Rarely, mild bruising or soreness can occur after treatment

  •  For most people, acupuncture is more relaxing than painful—some even fall asleep during their session.

Acupuncture has a wide range of benefits, both for specific conditions and for overall wellness. Here’s a clear breakdown:

1. Pain Relief

              Reduces chronic pain, including:

              Back pain

              Neck and shoulder tension

Joint pain (like knees or hips)

             Headaches and migraines

Helps with nerve-related pain (sciatica, neuropathy).

2. Stress Reduction & Mental Health

Calms the nervous system, reducing anxiety and stress.

Can improve sleep quality and reduce insomnia.

Supports emotional balance, helping with mild depression or mood swings.

3. Digestive & Internal Health

Helps regulate digestion, relieve bloating, nausea, or constipation.

Supports liver and spleen function in TCM theory, improving energy metabolism.

4. Immune System Support

Stimulates the body’s natural healing and immune response.

May reduce frequency of colds & infections

   5. Women’s Health & Hormonal Balance

Helps with menstrual pain, irregular cycles, or PMS.

Supports fertility and pregnancy wellness (prenatal care, morning sickness).

6. Respiratory & Allergy Relief

Can relieve sinus congestion, asthma, and seasonal allergies.

7. Holistic Wellness

Improves energy flow (“Qi”) and circulation.

Promotes relaxation and overall sense of well-being.

Enhances recovery from injuries or surgery.

The beauty of acupuncture is that it’s tailored to the individual—you may come in for pain relief, but it often has positive effects on stress, energy, and overall health at the same time.
